Empowering Potential: Governor Adeleke’s Call to Action for Persons with Disabilities in Osun State

On December 3rd, 2024, Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, resonated with messages of hope and empowerment as the state commemorated World Disabilities Day. The event, held at Osogbo Grammar School, saw Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, delivering an impactful speech celebrating the resilience, creativity, and potential of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Governor Adeleke’s message highlighted the remarkable achievements of PWDs, emphasizing that they are not defined by their challenges but by their ability to overcome them.
"Across Osun State and beyond, we see PWDs excelling in arts, sports, education, governance, and entrepreneurship, proving that disability is not inability," Adeleke remarked.
This message aligned perfectly with the theme of World Disabilities Day 2024,
Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disability for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.
The theme underscored the vital role of PWDs in driving progress and fostering inclusivity across all sectors.

A Commitment to Inclusion
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to creating a more inclusive environment for PWDs. Through ongoing policy reforms, advocacy initiatives, and empowerment programs, Osun State is working to ensure PWDs have access to the tools and opportunities needed to thrive.
Persons with disabilities have the potential to excel irrespective of the challenges they face,” Adeleke said.
He further called for the engagement of PWDs in governance, education, and entrepreneurship, challenging societal stereotypes and promoting equality.

World Disabilities Day, observed annually on December 3rd, is a United Nations initiative that promotes inclusion and support for PWDs worldwide. The day serves as a reminder of the need to break down barriers and create a society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can achieve their full potential.
