Nigerian music stars Davido and Erigga have become the centre of an online controversy after Erigga published a message celebrating musicians who built their careers without family wealth.
What began as a general observation quickly became personal when Davido responded. Their exchange has since divided social-media users over whether Erigga’s original message was harmless encouragement or an indirect criticism of artists from wealthy families.
Erigga celebrates self-made musicians

The exchange reflects a familiar entertainment-industry debate. Artists without financial backing often face greater obstacles, making their progress worth celebrating. At the same time, access to wealth does not automatically produce hit records, audience loyalty or a lasting career.
Both realities can exist together. Recognising the more difficult path faced by self-funded artists does not erase the work of musicians born into privilege. Likewise, defending hard work should not ignore the opportunities that money and connections can provide.
For now, neither Davido nor Erigga has indicated publicly that the disagreement has been resolved. What began as a message about perseverance has become another example of how quickly an unnamed social-media post can grow into major celebrity news.
