Filmmaker Spotlight: Damon Beesley and Iain Morris Start Production on The Inbetweeners 3 for Netflix

Filmmaker Spotlight: Damon Beesley and Iain Morris Start Production on The Inbetweeners 3 for Netflix

Damon Beesley and Iain Morris begin UK production on The Inbetweeners 3 for Netflix, reuniting the original creators and four lead actors.

Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are back behind the camera for The Inbetweeners 3, with Netflix confirming that production began in the United Kingdom on September 7, 2026. The reunion places the sitcom’s original creators at the centre of a major franchise revival, returning as both writers and directors for the third feature film.

For this Filmmaker Spotlight, the significant development is not simply the return of familiar characters. It is the creative continuity offered by Beesley and Morris, whose involvement gives the production a direct connection to the comedy voice that shaped the original E4 series and its two cinema releases.

The original creators return as writers and directors

Beesley and Morris created the television series and are also serving as executive producers on the Netflix film. Claire Jones is producing alongside Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Mark Lesbirel of Fudge Park Productions.

Netflix has not disclosed the film’s storyline or announced a release date. That keeps attention firmly on the production start and the filmmakers’ reunion rather than on speculation about where the characters’ lives will go next.

Will, Jay, Neil and Simon reunite

Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas are returning as Will, Jay, Neil and Simon. Netflix supported the announcement with a teaser that brings the four actors together again alongside Simon’s recognisable yellow Fiat Cinquecento, using one of the franchise’s most familiar visual signatures to signal its comeback.

The project arrives with substantial audience awareness already in place. According to Netflix, the original sitcom set ratings records for E4. The first feature film recorded what was then the biggest opening weekend for a UK comedy, while the second film also achieved box-office records.

Why the production matters beyond British comedy

For Nollywood filmmakers and producers, the return offers a useful production case study in how established screen properties can be revived while retaining their core creative leadership. Bringing the creators back as writers, directors and executive producers positions authorship as an important part of the franchise’s identity.

The announcement also demonstrates how a global streaming platform can use nostalgia, returning performers and instantly recognisable imagery to reintroduce an existing entertainment brand. That strategy will be familiar to African producers exploring sequels, spin-offs and renewed audience discovery across streaming and digital platforms.

With cameras now rolling, The Inbetweeners 3 has moved from reunion talk into active production. Until Netflix reveals the plot and release date, the clearest story remains the return of Beesley and Morris to the characters—and comic world—they originally created.
