YouTube Watch With could turn eligible Nollywood films into live Community discovery events connecting creators, casts and diaspora viewers worldwide.
Nollywood’s thriving YouTube film market may soon gain a new way to turn individual movie uploads into shared viewing occasions. YouTube announced on September 23, 2026, that Watch With will expand beyond selected broadcasts and livestreams to eligible long-form videos, with a staged rollout beginning later in 2026.
For Nollywood filmmakers, actors and reviewers, the expansion could create a fresh discovery route built around live reactions. Instead of watching a film alone and finding the conversation afterwards, audiences could experience the title alongside a host and an active Community in real time.
How YouTube Watch With will work
According to YouTube, eligible creators will be able to choose “React live” on a long-form video or livestream. The host can then broadcast a live reaction alongside the original content, giving viewers a shared space for commentary and discussion.
The arrangement also keeps the source upload connected to the event. Reacting creators retain the live advertising and fan-funding revenue they generate, while original creators receive attribution and additional view credit in YouTube Studio.
Crucially, source creators control whether their videos can be used for live reactions. That consent-based structure could make Watch With more useful to producers and film channels than unofficial watch-alongs that raise questions about rights, attribution and control.
A new discovery path for Nollywood films
The format could allow one Nollywood film to travel through several creator communities without detaching the conversation from its original upload. A reviewer might introduce an overlooked release, a cast member could host a watch-along, or a diaspora creator could organise an anniversary screening or spoiler discussion.
The potential audience is substantial. YouTube reported that more than 600 million logged-in viewers watched live content daily on average in August 2026, while over 40% of live watch time came from outside a creator’s home country. Google has also previously reported that more than 70% of watch time on Nigerian YouTube channels came from outside Nigeria.
Those international viewing patterns make Watch With especially relevant to Nollywood’s global audience. A well-chosen host could help a film reach viewers who follow the personality leading the reaction but have not yet discovered the filmmaker, cast or original movie channel.
Rollout and eligibility will matter
Watch With should not yet be treated as universally available. Its value to Nollywood will depend on YouTube’s staged rollout, which videos qualify and whether source channels enable live reactions. If adoption grows, however, long-form films could become scheduled Community events rather than uploads audiences encounter only through recommendations and search.
