The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is taking significant steps to strengthen its relationship with the Nigerian diaspora, particularly those in Houston, Texas, through a key forum titled "Optimizing Remittances to Nigeria: A Vision for the Future." Scheduled for October 20, 2024, this forum marks a milestone in the CBN's efforts to boost remittance flows and support Nigeria's financial sector.
Houston, home to the largest Nigerian diaspora in the U.S., plays a pivotal role in Nigeria's economic stability, contributing significantly to the country's $20.5 billion annual remittance inflow. The forum, organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), major banks, and International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs), will spotlight the untapped potential in remittance channels.
CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships to harness the contributions of Nigerians abroad. The event will feature discussions on optimizing remittance strategies to foster economic growth and financial inclusion, aiming for impactful outcomes for both the diaspora and Nigeria.
This forum is not just a discussion but a call to action, aiming to transform remittance flows into powerful tools for national development. With the commitment of key stakeholders, Nigeria is poised to benefit from stronger financial ties and inclusive economic progress.
